VSH-D650 Shore Station

The VSH-D650 is a software-defined VDES Shore Station providing a future-ready replacement for existing AIS shore infrastructure. Its advanced seven-channel concurrent receiver delivers exceptional visibility across the maritime VHF environment, while a single platform supports AIS Base Station, AtoN and Repeater functionality.

Built around S3C’s proprietary Software-Defined Radio technology and more than a decade of VDES development and standards involvement, the VSH-D650 provides a clear upgrade path from AIS to full VDES operation without hardware replacement.

New capabilities, including authenticated AIS and AtoN messaging and VDES data communications, can be progressively enabled through software, protecting infrastructure investment while preparing maritime authorities for the transition to secure digital maritime communications. Read more.

CanalNav-VR NPPU

CanalNav-VR is a Panama Canal Authority (PCA) approved Non-Portable Piloting Unit (NPPU), engineered for the demanding navigation requirements of NeoPanamax vessels. Combining centimetre-level positioning and highly accurate heading with an integrated AIS Class A transponder, CanalNav-VR provides precise, reliable navigation data when it matters most.

The integrated Class A capability makes it particularly attractive for newbuild vessels, combining two essential bridge systems into a single solution. Built around S3C’s advanced VDES technology, CanalNav-VR provides a clear upgrade path to the next generation of AIS.

CanalNav-VR combines compliance, performance and future-ready maritime connectivity in one integrated platform.

PRION

PRION, our VDE-SAT payload, forms a crucial part of VDES, connecting vessel transponders with satellites when out of range of shore stations, enabling seamless communication across land, sea, air, and space. VDES meets the demand for smart, high-capacity communications in busy waterways by enhancing data capacity and message reliability.

With flight heritage from 2018, the PRION ensures backward compatibility with its satellite AIS receiver predecessors. Fully upgradeable in-orbit with its compact software image, it future-proofs your satellite constellation, offering advanced SDR technology over the complete maritime band for applications beyond VDE-SAT. VDES1000

Our VDES1000 module is a bespoke, fully compliant, VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) product. It uses modern, state-of-the-art, technology that allows a very tight integration of components, making it a high-performance SDR solution with a small footprint and low power budget.

The VDES1000 module is a ground-up design that yields excellent customisation options for manufacturers’ specific form-fit requirements. The VDES1000 module fully meets the ship station (mobile) market requirement and can be used as the core module for a VDES upgradeable AIS shore station.

The VDES1000 module delivers industry-leading performance in a small form factor; includes an integrated GPS, high power amplifier and a robust, fully isolated, power supply unit. This enables a fast-to-market and cost-effective adaptation to execute specification changes through software updates.

Satellite SDR

S3C’s in-house SDR framework is a purpose-built development environment and signal processing library for creating low-powered embedded systems ideal for harsh environments like space and aeronautics. These systems balance reliability and advanced performance against limited size and power resources.

Our projects include advanced AIS satellite receiver payloads in low-earth orbit and a software-defined radio for a moon rover. Our proprietary communication protocols enable fast link acquisition and robust turbo-codes, making burst transmissions possible where standard solutions may not be feasible.

SwordFish

S3C’s expertise in the maritime and space sectors, combined with its vast suie of AIS 2.0 technology building blocks, allows us to offer unique communications solutions not found on the open market. This capability is showcased by our SwordFish platform, which provides VHF and satellite connectivity to modern maritime NMEA 2000 sensors on vessels.

TSM Systems leverages this platform in their TowPro solution, enabling real-time alerts for superyacht captains about potential issues on towed tenders. By streaming safety-related sensor data from the tender directly to the bridge, TowPro effectively gives captains "a pair of eyes in the boat”.
